A small home on a farm outside of Nairobi
Site:
The site is situated 150km north west of Nairobi toward the African Rift Valley. The land is covered in Acacia trees that are up to 3m high. The proposed location for the house is on a high point on the site where views are offered once elevated above the tree tops.
Concept:
The house is conceived of as two 'boulders' in which sleeping spaces are housed. The 'shaded' space found between forms the living space. A large and generous veranda wraps around three sides of the building creating an outdoor living space edged by the Acacia trees. The shading provided by the roof assists in regulating temperatures in the harsh and humid summer whilst protecting the edges from the rain fall during the rainy season.
